Competitor SEO Analysis that turns rival traffic into your pipeline

We map the SERP reality (not assumptions), quantify the gaps that matter, and deliver a prioritised plan you can execute fast: what to build, what to fix, what to refresh, and what it will take to outrank the sites currently winning your customers.

What competitor analysis should actually do

Not a 60-page export. A decision tool: where you can win, what it costs, and what to build first. If you already run SEO strategy + roadmapping, this becomes your fastest clarity lever.

Win paths you can validate

Know exactly where you can outrank

We identify the “winnable” clusters—keywords and topics where your site can realistically beat current leaders with the least time and risk.

  • Keyword gap by intent stage (top/mid/bottom funnel)
  • SERP feature opportunities (snippets, local packs, images)
  • Topic depth benchmarks (clusters vs. isolated pages)
Backlog that ships

Get a prioritised, ticket-ready plan

Every recommendation is mapped to a URL (or new page), with the “why” and the acceptance criteria. You can hand it to your internal team or let us execute.

  • High-impact pages to refresh and expand
  • New pages to close intent gaps
  • Internal linking targets and anchor themes
Risk control built-in

Avoid chasing competitor mistakes

We flag toxic patterns that look good short-term but fail long-term: thin pages, cannibalisation, fragile links, and index bloat.

  • Canonical + duplication signals (and quick fixes)
  • Technical baselines: CWV, crawlability, indexation
  • Link profile risk signals (spam, anchors, velocity)
Competitive SERP map Who wins which query sets, why they win, and what it takes to displace them.
Content + intent gaps What you’re missing by stage (awareness → conversion) and how to cover it efficiently.
Link gap + authority levers Where competitors earn authority, and which links matter for first-page correlation.
Architecture opportunities Internal linking, hubs, and cluster models to amplify rankings across related pages.

Module What we analyse What you receive Why it matters
SERP reality map Query sets by intent + SERP features (snippets, local, images) Winners/losers by cluster + “why” notes, feature targets, quick wins list Stops “guess SEO” and focuses effort on proven result formats
Keyword gap scoring Competitor ranking sets vs. yours, grouped by topic cluster Prioritised keyword targets + page-to-keyword mapping Identifies the fastest path to new qualified traffic
Content gap + depth Cluster coverage, topical depth, and page quality patterns Content briefs, refresh targets, “build vs. update” decisions Improves topical authority without bloating your index
Link gap + trust Authority deltas, anchor themes, link quality signals Link lever list + risk flags, suggested acquisition angles Shows what authority you need (and how to earn it safely)
Technical baseline Indexation, crawl efficiency, CWV signals, canonical issues (high level) Key technical constraints + “fix now vs later” guidance Prevents content work from being throttled by site health
Opportunity backlog Impact/effort scoring + sequencing 90-day (or shorter) plan with acceptance criteria Turns analysis into action with minimal handoff friction

When competitor analysis is the right move

Use this when you need clarity fast — especially if traffic is flat but competitors are growing.

  • You’re launching new services/products and need a SERP roadmap
  • You suspect competitors are “owning” your best intent terms
  • You need to prioritise content work (and stop random publishing)
  • You want to validate link building targets before investing

How we run competitor SEO analysis

A short engagement designed to produce a practical plan — built around your market, your margins, and your SERP reality. If you want ongoing execution, we align this with your SEO services plan.

Our 5-step analysis
Tap a step to view details (mobile opens a popup)

1) Market + SERP mapping

We start with the real SERP landscape: which competitors appear for which intent, what formats they win with, and where Google is signalling “quality” (depth, freshness, entities, UX, and trust).

  • Intent clusters aligned to how buyers actually search (awareness → purchase).
  • SERP feature targets (snippets, local, images, video) and what it takes to win them.
  • Competitor set validation so you benchmark against the sites Google actually rewards.

2) Keyword gap scoring

We measure what competitors rank for that you don’t, then score those gaps by potential value and feasibility—so you don’t chase high volume queries with low conversion intent.

  • Opportunity scoring based on intent, SERP competitiveness, and your current authority.
  • Page mapping: which URL should win each cluster (or what new page is needed).
  • Cannibalisation watch: avoid creating competing pages that dilute rankings.

3) Content + architecture gaps

Winning isn’t just “more words.” It’s satisfying intent, covering subtopics, and structuring clusters so authority flows. We also flag duplication patterns that cause index bloat.

  • Cluster depth benchmark: how many supporting pages competitors use, and what they cover.
  • Internal linking plan aligned to editorial relevance (supports faster ranking lift).
  • Duplication flags that often require canonical or consolidation fixes.

4) Authority + link levers

We identify the authority delta vs. the current top results and provide safe, practical levers to close it. If you need deeper cleanup, we can pair this with a toxic link audit.

  • Quality deltas (not just number of links): relevance, trust, and anchor profile.
  • Acquisition angles aligned to your niche (PR, resources, partnerships, linkable assets).
  • Risk controls to avoid spam patterns and unstable growth tactics.

5) Backlog + roadmap

You receive a prioritised backlog with clear acceptance criteria and a sequencing plan. If you want us to execute, we convert this into a monthly plan under SEO strategy + roadmapping.

  • Impact/effort prioritisation so you win faster with fewer resources.
  • Ticket-ready actions mapped to URLs (fix, build, refresh, consolidate).
  • Readout + next steps so stakeholders align and execution starts clean.

Competitor SEO analysis FAQ

If you’re comparing approaches, you may also want to review SEO audits and keyword research.

How is this different from a generic SEO audit?
An audit diagnoses your site. Competitor analysis explains the SERP reality: who wins, why they win, and what it takes to displace them. Many teams do both: competitor analysis to prioritise, then an audit to remove constraints (crawl/indexation, CWV, duplication).
Do you need access to GA4 or Search Console?
It’s helpful but not mandatory. We can benchmark using public SERP + crawl data, then improve accuracy with GA4/GSC to validate which pages and queries drive real conversions. If tracking is weak, start with GA4 + Search Console setup.
How many competitors should we include?
Typically 3–8. We’ll validate your list and adjust based on who Google consistently shows for your intent clusters. Often the “real” competitors in search differ from business competitors.
Can you include local SEO competitors and map pack visibility?
Yes. If local packs matter, we include map pack and Google Business Profile visibility patterns and recommend follow-up work under Google Business Profile optimisation and Google Maps SEO.
What do we do after the analysis?
Most teams execute the backlog via a mix of: content refresh, internal linking, and link building. If you want us to run it end-to-end, we’ll roll it into an ongoing plan under SEO services.
Will this help with sudden ranking drops?
It can help you see how the SERP shifted, but if you’re dealing with a sharp decline, start with indexing and ranking drop recovery to diagnose the cause (technical, indexing, content quality, or algorithm shifts).
